Positive Coaching Alliance
Saint Clement School is a member of the Positive Coaching Alliance. PCA works with coaches, organizational leaders and parents to more effectively teach young athletes not only how to win, but also how to learn about teamwork, discipline, respect and goal-setting through their athletic participation.
PCA was founded as a non-profit within the Stanford University Athletic Department in 1998, and they are committed to providing all youth and high school athletes a positive, character-building youth sports experience. To that end, PCA has conducted more than 10,000 live group workshops nationwide and their partnership network includes almost 2,000 youth sports organizations, cities and schools. The organization is endorsed by the Archdiocese of Chicago as part of their sports program guidelines and has been embraced by many local schools and organizations.
Saint Clement’s partnership with PCA includes mandatory annual workshops, one each for coaches, parents and athletes including:
- The Double-Goal Coach®, whose first goal is winning, and whose second, more-important goal is teaching life lessons through sports;
- The Second-Goal Parent®, who concentrates on life lessons, while letting coaches and athletes focus on competing; and,
- The Triple-Impact Competitor®, who strives to impact sport on three levels by improving oneself, teammates and the game as a whole.
In addition to the workshops, PCA provides coaches, parents and athletes with teaching advisories and tools from nationally recognized coaches, athletes, academicians, businesses and youth sports organizations.
